Interest has steadily been increasing into what TaylorMade may be planning to do with the SIM driver during 2021. This time last year details were beginning to emerge about the development of the SIM line up. Attention has now turned to what could be in the pipeline by the R&D team at TaylorMade for 2021.
A lot of conversation has been around the aesthetic changes that may accompany a potential TaylorMade SIM2 driver including the change towards a matt black crown. Discussion has also centered around the moveable weights which have seemingly been dropped in favor of a fixed weight position. Added to this is the concept of a single screw port instead of the face screws currently in use which could help to produce the look of a deeper face – something a lot of Golfers are in favor of.
As of 14th December we got a much clearer picture of what Taylormade are planning with the addition of the TaylorMade SIM2 and TaylorMade SIM2 MAX drivers which were added to the R&A and USGA conforming list. With the latest development of the drivers being added to the conforming list this means the new models could be put in play by Tour players as early as this week.
There is likely to be the SIM2 MAX D (Draw), which will be added later in the same way the 2020 version was – making it one to watch out for in early 2021. This could in part be due to no current Tour players opting to put the SIM2 MAX D in play yet meaning that TaylorMade don’t have a reason to submit it to the conforming list at this stage.
Added to this was a recent photo caught on Instagram of Tiger Woods on his way to a photoshoot where a mysterious new headcover was noticed in his bag. Lots of speculation suggesting this is indeed the new driver headcover.

Needless to say we’ll be following developments very closely in the coming months as more news begins to emerge from TaylorMade about their plans for the SIM2, and their 2021/2022 driver line up.
