Two time Major winner, Dustin Johnson, has become notorious for endlessly changing his putter. The TaylorMade staffer has even been known to change putter mid competition in search for the optimum feel. If things do go astray with the flatstick he’ll often look to make a switch that gets the ball immediately started back on the line he wants.
As of February 2021, the putter that Dustin Johnson uses is the TaylorMade Spider Tour Limited ‘Itsy Bitsy’. It’s a putter which has been in and out of his bag for the last few years, but most recently he’s stuck with it on a more consistent basis. No doubt the stellar putting display we saw from DJ at the 2020 Masters will have reaffirmed his comfort in using the TaylorMade Itsy Bitsy Spider Limited.
The putter has a lightweight 6061 aluminum body that is combined with a 304 stainless steel frame which allows weight to be positioned at the extremities. This in turn provides improved stability and a high MOI (4900+). Dustin’s particular version is a gunmetal colored frame with a black body.
The Spider Tour Limited ‘Itsy Bitsy’ was designed with a seamless top crown and a long, single sightline which helps to promote consistent alignment – something which heavily influences Dustin’s choice of putter. The putter also has a Milled Pure Roll insert with a gunmetal finish which results in better forward roll, increased directional accuracy, and enhanced distance control. There is also a vibration dampening PU foam embedded between the body and frame for consistent sound and feel.
Added to this is DJ’s grip of choice which is the original SuperStroke Traxion Pistol GT 1.0 Tour which has been a firm favorite of his over the last few years. It’s a grip which is used by over 125 PGA Tour players – the likes of Justin Thomas included.
Their patented ‘No Taper Technology’ creates even grip pressure for a more consistent stroke. It’s a a classic pistol shape that helps lock-in a player’s grip and creates the ultimate in feel and performance.
