LIV Golf has developed a distinctive look since its launch, with players competing in team-branded shirts, caps and other apparel rather than relying solely on their individual clothing sponsors. Whether it is Jon Rahm in Legion XIII colours, Bryson DeChambeau representing Crushers GC or Tyrrell Hatton alongside Rahm, the team branding has become almost as recognisable as the players themselves. Three of the teams wear Greyson as their official apparel provider, Legion XIII, Ripper GC and Torque GC. But with LIV’s commercial structure continuing to evolve, there is growing interest in whether its biggest stars could eventually be given more freedom over what they wear.
There is currently no confirmed date for LIV players to stop wearing team apparel, and the team concept remains central to the league. However, several of LIV’s biggest names already have strong individual relationships with apparel brands, making it easy to imagine a different model in the future. Jon Rahm is perhaps the clearest example. The two-time major champion has a long-standing partnership with Greyson, which also supplies apparel to Legion XIII. If players were eventually allowed to put greater emphasis on their personal sponsors, Rahm could potentially become an even more prominent ambassador for Greyson while retaining Legion XIII branding in a reduced role.
Bryson DeChambeau presents another interesting case. The 2024 US Open champion has a major commercial relationship with Reebok Golf, which is closely linked with Crushers GC as well as DeChambeau himself. A move away from heavily prescribed team uniforms could therefore see Bryson’s Reebok clothing become more prominent, with the Crushers identity incorporated through smaller logos or selected pieces. Tyrrell Hatton could also benefit from greater freedom, particularly given his profile as one of Europe’s most recognisable players and his position alongside Rahm at Legion XIII. He could indeed return back to the Adidas fold as we saw him prior to him joning LIV.
Another previous Adidas brand ambassador is that of Joaquin Niemann who is player worth watching. The Chilean has become one of LIV’s most successful players since joining the league and has established himself as one of its leading younger stars.
For now, however, the team kit is not disappearing. LIV’s franchises remain an important part of its identity and apparel is an obvious way of promoting those teams to fans both at tournaments and through merchandise. How long these golfers continue with LIV golf remains to be seen. However, the likes of Rahm in Greyson, Bryson in Reebok, and other major LIV stars could soon return to being free agents who can pick and choose which apparel supplier to partner with.
